Maintenance Manager / Mechanical Engineer
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections, assessments, and analysis to ensure mechanical integrity of static and rotating equipment.
- Lead failure investigations and root cause analysis to prevent recurrence of mechanical faults.
- Support and manage statutory inspection (e.g. PSSR, LOLER) and pressure system maintenance.
- Develop and optimize mechanical maintenance strategies in line with reliability-centred maintenance principles.
- Plan and execute mechanical maintenance activities including shutdowns, turnarounds and outages.
- Work closely with planning and technicians to ensure timely and effective execution of mechanical tasks.
- Ensure all mechanical engineering activities comply with COMAH regulations and internal Process Safety Management systems.
- Participate in HAZOP, LOPA and risk assessment processes.
- Provide mechanical engineering input for capital projects and modifications (Management of Change).
- Review and approve mechanical designs and drawings to ensure compliance with standards and codes.
- Identify and implement opportunities for efficiency, cost reduction and performance improvement in mechanical systems.
- Support reliability initiatives and plant performance KPI’s
- To carry out all activities safely with due regard to others working on the site
- Comply with all rules, policies and procedures on the site, including prescribed limits within relevant permits and licences as appropriate
- To comply with all processes and procedures covered by accreditation to ISO9001, 14001 and 18001
- To act in accordance with the requirements of the COMAH Safety Report
- To act in accordance with the requirements of the Emergency Plan
- Lead, mentor, and supervise staff member, providing direction, support, and performance evaluations
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineering status (IMechE or equivalent)
- Proven Experience in a high-hazard industry (chemical, oil and gas) preferably COMAH Upper Tier
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, piping, and rotating equipment
- Knowledge of relevant regulations (PUWER, PSSR, DSEAR etc) and standards (API, ASME, BS/EN codes).
- Experience of pressure systems, pipe and vessel fabrication, non destructive testing techniques, LOLER, PUWER
- Technical knowledge and planning skills including assessment of method statements and risk assessments
- Experience in managing capital projects and/or major shutdowns
- Awareness of relevant health and safety legislation and company Procedures
- Experience of monitoring and audit activity
- Experience of management of change
- Familiarity with Autocad, maintenance management system, project handover documentation, operator and maintenance training
